Gosia Maziarz is an emerging watercolour artist and illustrator based in Whadjuk Country, Western Australia.

An AILA-registered landscape architect by profession.

Member of the Watercolour Society of W.A., Western Australian Society of Arts and Illustrators Australia.

Her architectural background brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work. She creates works celebrating the harmony between nature, art, and the built environment through fine art pieces in watercolour and digital artworks.

Her pieces range from explorations of endemic flora, landscapes and abstract paintings.

After years immersed in architecture and landscape design, I’ve found my way back to art. I’ve always been drawn to painting trees and landscapes.

My creative journey began with a beautiful primary school teacher encouraging me to explore different mediums. Later, it took shape through pencil drawing during my university architecture days. But it wasn’t until after the birth of my second child that something truly shifted. Knowing how much I missed drawing, my husband surprised me with a birthday gift: a coffee catch-up with one of Perth’s well-known illustrators. She introduced me to the iPad, and a new chapter began.

I was amazed by the digital possibilities and quickly started creating my own brushes, blending my traditional drawing background with new technology. At the same time, my professional work in landscape architecture evolved, and I began introducing digital illustration into design environments. That’s also when my focus on endemic plants deepened - illustrating them became a meaningful part of my practice.

In 2023, I picked up watercolours for the first time - a long-time dream. It was part creative challenge, part personal therapy. After years of structured, screen-based work, I craved something more fluid and tactile. Watercolour gave me that freedom. You can’t fully control the outcome - you must be present, let go, and trust the process. And that’s been the most beautiful lesson yet.
